Tip One - premade mixes don't work.Do NOT buy pre-made cheer music. It's like buying a wedding dress off the rack. Premade cheer music might be cheap but it's junk. There are so many teams that go this route but they have no idea what they are doing. These pre-made mixes have no correlation to your routine, there is no synchronization. It's like watching one of those over-seas movies where the speech doesn't line up with what the actors are saying. Is that what you want to look like? Besides, unoriginal music is lame. Do you want to be branded as lame? |
Tip Two - Team StyleIf your team is awesome at dancing and you really show that off, you might want to consider a hip-hop route. If you guys are awesome at tumbling, you might want to go with a more intense Rock style. You can also pick a theme like Madonna or Spice Girls or Metallica, whatever floats your boat. Make sure it supports your team's strengths! |
Tip Three - Don't always choose what is "popular"You might like to wear the same boots and sunglasses as everyone else, but don't pick the same cheer music as everyone else. It gets really old, really fast. If you were a judge and you had to hear the same "all of the boys, and all of the girls are beggin' to ....." over and over, you would start being less generous with the scores because the team just put you in a bad mood. Go with something original! If you find yourself saying "we should do what <xyz team> did last year!!" then you are NOT original. |
Tip FOUR - Don't overdo the sound effects!Sound effects are awesome when you use them to emphasize something happening on the mat. But nobody wants to hear a symphony of ding, whip, snap, pop, bang. It's really annoying and ear-piercing. When you are listening to a song, do you like when people drum on the desk and clap along? Exactly.... |
Tip FIVE - Don't pick songs that put you asleep. There are a lot of really cool songs that we all like, but that doesn't mean they are meant for a cheer routine. Example - "Stop and Stare" by One Republic is a cool song, but in a routine it feels so slow - and if you speed it up, it sounds distorted. It just wasn't meant for cheer music. |
Now you can make a more-educated decision when choosing your cheer music!
